THE WORD BEGIN MAY

To begin

BE A VERY SHORT WORD , BUT IT IS VERY EFFECTIVE AND HAS AN ARRAY OF MEANINGS . THE AGRICUL- TURE SECTOR IS AT SUCH A POINT WHERE WE MUST NOW BEGIN TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT SEASON .

In the most recent times our sector received a lot of praise since it kept the economy afloat , and it is indeed about time that it is recognised as a major role player .

It was Plato who uttered the words , “ The beginning is the most important part of the work .” And for me this is where we get it right . Begin is summed up as the first , or indeed , earliest part of an action . If we define the word even more , it can be described as the time when something comes into existence or arises from something .
The word comes from the Middle English term beginnen which means “ to begin ”. It ’ s true meaning is actually more defined when we look at the Welsh term “ genni ” which loosely translated means to delve or submerge ones elf into something . To get one ’ s teeth into a project , so to speak . The Latin translation is prehendō , and it means to get a real grasp or nab on it .
OCT / NOV 2017 • SENWES Scenario
In the agricultural sector we are beginning , in a certain sense , to focus on the next part of the season . Here Agronomist Gerrit Oosthuizen ’ s column talks about the time for planting . Senwes also took the lead as main sponsor of the 2017 Bultfontein Boertjiefees , writing the next chapter of this festival after the organisers had to cancel it in 2016 due to the severe drought leading up to the event .
We also welcome Agricultural Services , with Johan du Toit writing the first of many articles . The area focus we started in 2015 led us to the Schweizer-Reneke district this time , where Senwes is also delving deep in its focus on this region . We also began with research regarding the Senwes Scenario , to really grasp what producers want , and we will incorporate certain elements as from 2018 . The 2017 / 2018 cricket season has also started and we are launching a competition for the T20 match between the Proteas and the touring side of Bangladesh , which will be taking place on 29 October where you will stand a chance to win an experience for 6 at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom .
I leave you with the words of Friedensreich Hundertwasser : “ When we dream alone it is only a dream , but when many dream together , it is the beginning of a new reality .” A beginning we all can look forward to !
