family connotation.

FARMING SINCE 1990
Charl has been farming here since
1990. His farms cover an area of
5 600 hectares and 50% of his
lands are grazing and 50% arable
land. In a normal year he plants
on 1 600 hectares and the rest are
fallow lands. Maize is produced
on 800 hectares and sunflower
and teff on 400 hectares each.
160 hectares of the arable land are
under irrigation. Although maize
is his main focus, he only planted
sunflower over the past drought
season.
WHAT HIS FATHER TAUGHT HIM
“My father Robert taught me
just about everything I know.”
Robert, who passed away 6 years
ago, never got angry. Charl says
he will always remember so“If
you fight then you have lost the
fight.” Sometimes he thinks back
to how angry he used to get with
his father, but in the end his father
always won the fight.
HIS OWN MOTTO
Be satisfied with what you have “Many farmers want to go bigger
and better, to the very limit.” He is
different. “I have never competed
with any farmers in the area.You
have to be satisfied with what you
have and you should just enjoy it.”
The wild component is run on 1 800
hectares with from black wildebeest
to zebras on occurring on his farm.
The Modder river is important for the district.
Faith is also important: “If you
don’t have faith I don’t believe that
you can be a farmer. The army also
taught me that one can do more
than what you think you can.”
SENWES
He is very forthright about his
involvement as Senwes client. “I
am grateful for Senwes and the
way in which it assisted me, even
before my early farming days, from
1989 when I got my membership
number.”
Charl has been doing grain
marketing at Senwes since 1990
and he is satisfied with the service
of grain procurer, Jana Erasmus.
“You are sure of your money at
Senwes and you can deliver grain
with a higher moisture content.”
He also makes use of Senwes
Credit for his financing requirements. After having farmed on
a cash basis for some years, he is
using Senwes Credit again. “I also
have a lot of respect for Key Account Manager, Louis Twigge.”
JOHN DEERE TRACTORS AND SENWES
He has 13 John Deere tractors and
a John Deere harvester. The service
which he receives from Senwes
Equipment is the most important
