CAMERADERIE
One often looks for an idea , a notion or a word to describe a producer . During the drought over the last period of time one often stood speechless at the way in which producers assisted one another and how members of the public and companies came to the aid of producers .
Genuine cameraderie . But what is cameraderie ? It is a feeling of deep friendship amongst a group of people . In this instance our producers .
We can all identify with it . The idea is explained to us from an early age , as in the animated television series Brakanjan and the Three Musketeers . The story originates from a 17th century musketeer named D ’ Artagnon . Charles Ogier de Batz de Castelmore , Comte D ’ Artagnan , served Louis XIV as captain of the Musketeers and died during the French and Dutch wars . His life , although fiction , is very interesting . This is where the expression of “ one for all and all for one ” comes from . Stanley Kauffmann referred to something similar in the New Republic , namely that the troops in Vietnam “ only had one another and nobody but one another ”.
We focus on Bultfontein in this edition , where cameraderie is evident amongst producers . In the spotlight focuses on the chairman of Bultfontein District Agriculture , Herman Meiring , who set up a system of people to improve Bultfontein . The Bultfontein area also plays a huge role in the
food basket of South Africa .
Cameraderie is also seen in this area , with Senwes as part of the agricultural community delivering feed and creating systems to address the threatening water problems in the Bultfontein and Kroonstad areas .
Upcoming producer , Bora Monyatsi , admits that he only started to understand the cameraderie amongst producers after he started farming .
The hunting season is upon us and we have no less than two hunting articles for the hunting enthusiast in this edition - one each by Jaco Kruger and Frans Dreyer .
Cameraderie is also cultivated at Senwes Equipment and 16 technicians are among the John Deere top 50 candidates this year . We also officially welcome Gerrit Maritz as comrade and new financial director of Grasland .
Luan van der Walt from the University of the Free State shares with us his article on precision farming , which links up to Susari ’ s article , Safex Scenarios and Thys Grobbelaar ’ s Come Rain or Shine and Grain Market Prospects . The spiritual side is also not neglected , with articles by Willie Botha , Carel Botma , Milanie Vosloo and Jenny Matthews .
Only co-operation and genuine cameraderie will ensure that we get through these difficult times , to face the future with positivity . “ One for all and all for one !”
