PARYS: CITY ON A RIVER...
CITY OF LOVE
T
his picture perfect little
town was named by the
surveyor, Schilbach in 1876. The
Vaal River flowing through the
town reminded him of the Seine
River in Paris, France.
However, the unique landscape
is the result of a meteor of 10 km
which hit the earth at a speed of
36 000km/h two billion years ago,
and left a crater of 300km, now
known as the Vredefort Dome. It
is still the oldest impact crater on
earth.
Parys is known for its fairytale
streets with numerous art shops,
restaurants and guest houses and
love-birds, photographers and bikers enjoy visiting the town. Interesting buildings include the Parys
Museum, the NG Church as well
as the old Anglican Church.
UNIQUE ATTRACTIONS IN PARYS
Parys has something in common
with the French capital in the
form of the well-known hanging
bridge, where many love-birds
have declared their undying love.
The tradition amongst locals and
visitors is to hang a lock with their
names on the cables of the bridge,

thereby eternalising their love.
HINTERLAND BRANCH
The branch manager at Parys, Johan Cromhout, has been with the
company since 2013 and in Parys
since 2015. He is in control of 49
staff members, which include 24
persons at the branch, 17 at the
workshop, 7 at the spares division and a whole goods marketer,
Wimpie Nel.
BRANCH HISTORY
The old branch is being used as
a store and dates from 1928. It
was in use until 13 August 1994,
when the new branch was officially
opened by Tobie Loubser, former
ward director of Sentraal Wes
Co-operative Limited. The neighbouring branches include Heilbron, Oberholzer, Potchefstroom
and Vereeniging.
The Parys workshop services a
huge area, namely Parys, Heilbron,
Vaaldriehoek, the total West Rand,
Randburg, Oberholzer, Potchef
stroom, Rysmierbult and Vredefort. In addition personnel are also
being trained as old tractor specialists at the Parys workshop.
A thanksgiving day in the form
of a church service in the workshop has been held since 2014, led
by Andries Enslin. Gerhard Steyn
supporters take note - his 2015
music video, Verlief op ’n Dief, was
filmed in the Parys branch and
store, with Gerhard playing the
role of a spares sales clerk in the
video.
