••• NEW S AUBREY KRUGER Herbert Mabuza From mediaman to farmer... THOSE IN THE KNOW MIGHT REMEMBER HERBERT MABUZA AS THE MUCH ACCLAIMED JOURNALIST AND PHOTOGRAPHER. H erbert has a long history and joined the media industry in 1982. He worked for Sunday Express and then joined the Star and Sunday Times. He became the Managing Editor of the Star and later on the Sowetan and Sunday World and handed over the baton in June 2015. “I loved what I did at the newspapers. I worked my way up from the bottom to the top.” But as outspoken as he is about his career in media, he hardly ever talks about the years preceding this wonderful time in his life. “The part of my life I never talk about” To understand him fully you need to look at the earlier years. Herbert disappeared for a while as he thinks back to the latter part of his teenage life. “I was a guest of the government, unwillingly for a while.
