Ruthie's powerful message got us thinking about just how often sexual assaults occur. According to the U.S. Department of Justice's National Crime Victimization Survey (2008-2012) there was an average of 237,868 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year.
That means that once every 2 minutes another American is being assaulted, and that only includes those who are brave enough to admit what happened.
Sexual assualt has decreased by more than half since 1993 but we still have a very long way to go. It's up to all of us to do whatever we can to make this horrible crime less prevelant and bring those who committed these terrible acts to justice.
