MEMORABILIA SPOTLIGHT FRANK SINATRA 1940 T he legendary “Chairman of the Board” defined traditional American pop and swing styles , was the very first “teen idol” and became one of the most iconic figures in history. Frank’s larger-than-life persona is so ingrained in our culture, that it’s easy to overlook how truly gifted he was as a vocalist and lyric interpreter. Sinatra’s 60-year career had many highlights, but most agree that his best work was done in the 1950s when he collaborated with bandleader Nelson Riddle on classic albums like “Songs for Swinging Lovers” and “In the Wee Small Hours”. The wool-and-silk blazer on display was custom-tailored for Frank Sinatra in 1982. JACKSON 5 1970 W hen the Jackson 5 made their Motown Records debut in 1969, the pop world was forever changed. The release introduced the world to a force of nature called Michael Jackson. In the years that followed, the Jackson 5 dominated the pop charts with hits like “I Want You Back”, “ABC” and “I’ll Be There”. In 1979, the group – now known simply as the Jacksons – embarked on an ambitious world tour in support of their smash album ‘Destiny’. These outfits were worn by Michael, Tito, Jackie, Randy and Marlon during the tour. Michael’s mega-platinum solo album, ‘Off the Wall’, was released during the tour – forcing the group to rework their set list to accommodate the new hit singles from Michael’s album. 19
