Today last minute vacation deals can be very affordable and thank goodness as many of us are running at an unprecedented rate. The very tempo in which most of us consume and process information and conduct our daily business has changed over the last few decades, you can thank the smart technologies in our phones and the internet of course! But it's not just the information that has accelerated. For example in the space of a lifetime we have seen vehicles speeds double and your mind has to work much harder to keep up. Right now in 2014 most of us are working our minds harder than ever before.

You thought maybe because you are little older, it was just you slogging along trying to keep up?

Hard to believe this electronic rush all started in the 70s with the first PCs and fax machines. Back in those days if you wanted to pay a bill or conduct a large purchase you had to write a check or wait for a bank to open to withdraw the money and everyone packed cash or a check book. Today Most of us pay our bills on line and transfer funds in a blink of an eye, someone can receive and spend the money you sent to the other side of the planet in seconds.

Having everything at our fingertips has sped up how quickly information is coming at us and yes for some of us, we are starting to show some cracks in our mortar. Most of us are wired on stimulants such as energy drinks or the afternoon double double and hey !

For most it's a necesscity just to keep up!

Ahh yes there is the weekend when we all get time to recharge our batteries....

As my wife would say "what a joke!" It seems that a whole new set of domestic endevors are always on tap including maintenance of any and everything and you own, the list of things you want do vs. the things that have to be done like cutting the lawn or clearing the driveway. Most of us take it all in stride and just roll with it, because you can't fight it and even if you did resist you would only be making yourself and everyone around you unhappy. I say to my wife Kim, isn't this the perfect little family you always dreamed of when you were a little girl playing make believe.... Don't you remember saying... let's pretend that your the dad and I'm the mom and Fido can be our son !

When the weekend is done we often look forward to the rest we desire in the comfortable routine we call WORK.

This is especially true if you tried to cram a short camping / fishing trip into a weekend.

Well if most weekends are not for resting then surely all we have to do is go to bed a little earlier to make up for that lost sleep Right ?? Well statics show we are getting less rest that ever and I can personally attest to that, because I now have teenagers in the house and on weekends they often double or triple in numbers we get less sleep. For me that's all good, because I Iike knowing where they are and that they are safe. Maybe when we find ourselves in that proverbial empty nest we can savor our early evenings.

Some how that doesn't seem real, as there is always something on the go at our house. Realistically we need to schedule time out the best time to defrag as my wife calls it seems during exercise. They say meditation or contemplation comes about when and if you can put your mind to rest.

Doing repetitive things can seen boring mundane or difficult to focus on, but learning to let go of all the information accumulation in your mind takes practice.

As I often tell myself and others, anything worth while is worth the extra effort.

Most often for me it takes several days to wind down and you gotta get me away from my projects in the house office or shop. We purchased a property on Fraser Lake BC "our lake house" as we affectionately call it designated (in our minds) to be a blissful get away where the tranquil water beckons and the sunsets defy description.

Well at the end of the day you have to decide what you are going to do or in other

words create a mindset. "this weekend I'm going to launch my little sail boat and pack a big lunch and enjoy the water! As you may know if you fail to plan....you are planning to do other things like maintenance projects at the lake house!

Schedule time away

Time and time again the life lesson of a busy person is to create a priorty of quality time. One of our most memorable family trips was a Caribbean cruise and second to that was in Playa Del Carmen Mexico.

It seems its becoming more and more difficult to get off the proverbial treadmill and truly mentally relax. Yes you guessed it that,s me in the ball cap on the beach in Mexico 2014.

Now more than ever we need to just.... break free!
