ach mind is unique, much in the same way that fingerprints differ from person to person.

Male to female, brother to brother, sister or

sister, our minds are complex and vary widely according to genetic and environmental

influences. What is true for one person is not true

for another, even within the same family.

Our diversity is what makes us autonomous and so profoundly successful as a species.

When you look at the illustrations below, think about how they relate your personal perspective as many of us will view identical things differently.

In my personal perspective, the negative attributes, or negative weight, of an average negative topic is about 3 to 1, as shown below compared to positive.

In other words if you were to weigh positive and negative topics based on their emotional impact, the illustration would be accurate for me. (For the purposes of the illustration, the positive items have little to no weight.) Figure A

Your general perspective is a pivot point, or GP in the figure B. Since negative outweighs positive, shifting your GP creates improved balance and resiliency when negative circumstances or issues occur. If you are experiencing even a single negative issue, it upsets your personal balance and makes it more difficult to deal with, even with a positive influence present.

In figure C one of the main issues with always focusing on the negative or always having a negative topic on your mind is that you block the incoming positive emotions and circumstances.

This is a self-inhibiting, selfperpetuating mental cycle that traps some people for an entire lifetime. We all have met people caught in this cycle; no matter how hard they try, they cannot ignore an opportunity to wallow in the negativity that comes their way every day. Chances are, if something positive did come their way, they would be suspicious and look for the underlying negativity.

We all need to stay focused on the positive aspects of our lives and to be self-aware enough to know when a change of focus is needed.

When you are out of balance, you need to shift your general perspective (GP).
