MINI CUPS FEATURE WIN

GOES TO TO LEVESQUE

Zachary Levesque led the Mini Cups from start to finish, while Ava Chouinard stayed on his tail for the entire distance and scored a big second to lay claim to the 2017 Phil’s Propane Triple Crown championship. The division ran its feature without a caution.

Levesque came off the pole with Tommy Harris on his shoulder. Hugh Bowser, starting outside the second row made the big move in to a three-wide at the front, looking for the front but then fell back. Chouinard, who had started on Bowser’s low side, then got past Harris into second and the top two positions were decided after the first lap. Harris edged Bowser for third and the latter settled into fourth with Nikolas Frechette in pursuit.

The field quickly stretched out single file with Chouinard opening her entire bag of tricks to get by Levesque only to be frustrated at each attempt. Still she persevered and the lead was continuously in doubt.

Michael Cooper got underneath Zachary Martinez, trying to pry sixth from his grasp. He was able to get by as Chouinard continued to harass Levesque.

Harris and Bowser then rushed up to the leaders and the top four were running nose-to-tail. Bowser looked to the outside on Harris but couldn’t get by.

Levesque took a carlength lead into the white flag lap and held on for the win. The top four of Levesque, Chouinard, Harris and Bowser in that order all crossed the stripe in seven tenths of a second. Frechette was fifth, just a second behind the leader. Cooper was sixth and Martinez seventh.
