Seekonk Fast Friday Recap June 29 with Kyle Souza
Our Fast Friday season is quickly moving along, and this week, we found another first-time winner in Victory Lane. I have said it before, but winning your first race is an emotional moment for the entire family and the entire race team.
Friday, Isiah Newcomb found himself in the winner’s circle for the first time in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandit division. A few weeks ago, Newcomb was involved in a serious crash that damaged the No. 22 enough that his team had to spend nearly the entire week working on the car. They were rewarded with the checkered flag as Newcomb held off Giovanni Ruggerio on a late restart to win a feature that took only nine minutes to complete. Devin Deshaies, who has won multiple races this season, finished third.
In the Bandolero Outlaw division, Connor Souza put his second win of the season into the record books. Souza got to the lead right from the drop of the green flag, and he never let it go during the caution-free feature. Evan Marchand and Tyler Tomassi put on a race for the second spot that had the fans on the edge of their seats. Marchand was able to hold off for the second spot, while Tomassi, the most recent winner, finished third. I also want to welcome Brandon LaVoie to the Bandolero’s at Seekonk -- in his first start, he finished sixth.
The 20-lap Sport 4 feature saw plenty of three-wide racing throughout the field, but in the end, Dave Gargaro used the outside lane to roll to the victory for the second straight race. Gargaro passed Jordan Lopes for the second week in a row in the final laps and he won the race by over one second on the rest of the field. In the final laps, AJ Manuel slid by Jordan Lopes to finish second. With four races down, the Sport 4 division has been one of the most competitive at Seekonk. They continue to put on a show for the fans and I expect much of the same going through the summer months.
Len Sousa nearly grabbed his second straight Pure Stock win, but in a feature that included multiple red flags, Doug Benoit was victorious for the third time this season. Benoit got to the lead early and he had some heavy pressure from Sousa over the second half of the race, especially on the restarts. Sousa has a new ride that he purchased — the car formerly driven by champion Andrew Kun — and it looks like he is off to a fast start with it. He has a victory and a second in two races.
The Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series feature for the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars saw a familiar face carrying the checkered flag. Nick Lascuola, a former champion in the class, put himself back in a Legends Car that he built and he was right back in winning form. Congrats to Nick, Joey Parker, and the entire NLR team on another victory — it’s been a while for Nick. He also put together a podium finish in the Granite State Pro Stock Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in late June.
