Tom Scully, Jr. began his championship defense in earnest as he won the Pro Stock feature, holding off a charging Dave Darling over the closing laps. Ryan Lineham had taken the early lead from the pole, but Scully got past Rick Martin to challenge Lineham and got by after a three-lap challenge. Lineham had been as much as 8 lengths ahead but lap six saw Billy Joerres go around and now, Scully was behind Lineham on the restart.

Scully followed Lineham across the stripe with Rick Martin on his tail. Behind them, Kevin Casper and Fred Astle, Jr. were going at it for position.

Lap six saw the first of only two cautions in the forty laps. Lineham and Martin battled briefly but Scully was on Lineham’s bumper and they dueled as Martin faded. Kevin Casper and Fred Astle were door to door behind them.

Following a lap ten caution, Scully was able to nose past Lineham and Casper then got in underneath him as Scully moved away. Mike Brightman came up to get by Casper and then began nosing under Lineham and they went at it, wheel-to-wheel. By Lap 17, Scully Casper, Spencer, Brightman, Ryan Vanasse, Darling, and a fading Lineham. By lap 20. the field was strung out single file.

Vanasse then got under Spencer and Darling followed him. By Lap 28 Scully’s lead was five carlengths over Casper and there was another eleven lengths back to where Vanasse was coming with Darling locked to his bumper. Darling looked underneath and they brawled over the position until Darling went ahead on lap 32. As Scully held his five car lead on Casper, Darling set his sights on second and bore down.

With five laps remaining, Darling was on Casper’s bumper. He looked underneath and Kevin slammed the door. He looked to the outside and then fell in behind. He moved up again and this time was able to get into second as Vanasse looked underneath but wasn’t able to get through into third.

Scully’s lead held all the way to the checkers with Darling storming across in second. Kevin Casper was third with Vanasse capturing fourth on his tail. Spencer was fifth, followed by Brightman, Astle, Kyle Casper, Bobby Pelland III, Rick Martin and Dick Houlihan.
