FRECHETTE OUTLASTS MARTINEZ FOR MINI CUP WIN

Nikolas Frechette battled it out with Hugh Bowser for most of the Mini-Cup feature. However, after a messy lap 9, where Bowser was tagged for an assist on Zachary Martinez’ and Ava Chouinard’s spin, Tommy Harris took over second. Martinez was quick to displace him and spent the last two laps working over Frechette. But to no avail as Frechette ran the final two laps holding him off and then claimed the trophy at the finish.

Martinez gathered up second and Bowser grabbed third ahead of Harris and Chouiard.

Frechette nosed ahead of Martinez at the start then took over the front in turn two. Bowser held on to third then ran up to Frechette’s bumper. But Jake Melberg spun off turn two, bringing caution.

Frechette and Martinez lined up with Bowser and Chouinard in row two, followed by the pairing of Zachary Levesque and Harris. Frechette nosed out and Martinez held on while Bowser ran up to Frechette’s bumper. Chouinard was able to get underneath Martinez and into third while Harris took fifth. By lap two, Frechette was pursued by Bowser, Chouinard and Martinez as the field strung out.

Frechette slid up out of turn two on the following circuit but Bowser was unable to take advantage. Over the next five laps, Nikolas increased his lead but could not shake Bowser. Chouinard followed, a distance behind.

By lap nine, Frechette again had Bowser all over his tailfeathers as Harris spun into the grass on the front stretch. The lap nine restart saw Frechette and Bowser door-to-door down the front stretch but Chouinard and Martinez spun out of turn two and Bowser took the blame: all three went to the rear.

Now Frechette had Levesque on his outside with Melberg and Michael Cooper in row two. Frechette grabbed the lead again but Melberg Spun to the infield and Levesque was called for the assist. Again they lined up and took the green.

Frechette pulled the lead over Cooper, who worked tonose back, but a Mini-Cup four-wide in the back of the pack on the third attempt to restart lap nine saw Melberg again spun out in turn three.

As they pulled away on lap 10, Frechette went ahead while behind him, Martinez was getting under Harris and behind them, Bowser was side-by-side with Chouinard. Bowser ran up to Martinez’ bumper. This established the top three with two laps still remaining. Harris moved into third and Chouinard took fifth.

The field wound through the final two laps in order and finished in the above order with Frechette pulling his second win on the season.

Sixth went to Levesque, followed by Melberg and Cooper.
