Kunst Himmel launched [ kunst ], his lifestyle label in late 2007 after noticing a lack in realistic and quality office furniture . “ Back in the day , Second Life was an attractive place for virtual meetings and many real life companies saw that as a possibility for its employees from around the world to meet online ...,” said the insightful Himmel who then began building furniture inspired by a Bauhaus style .
The craftsmanship of [ kunst ] products are top notch and its care to design detail truly defines the brand . Himmel prudently considers the two elements of textures and modeling , which eventually lend all his creations its soul : Metal or wood textures may see a worn-in texture to convey a shabby chic , while ultra-shine underscores the gleam of pristine glass crystal or liquid gold .
More than just furniture design … Second Life is ever-changing , which is why I ’ m more focused on avatar accessories and vintage decoration now ”
Partnering with other Second Life brands , such as Hoorenbeek … I have done collaborative work a few times , and it has been very satisfactory . Teamwork is very interesting because each creator has their own ideas and working methods .
On the future of [ kunst ]… We keep developing the brand , trying to give our very best with each product while meeting our customers ’ expectations . There is a lot in store for them in the near future .
Meeting Himmel was an eye-opening and refreshing experience for this reporter . Himmel ’ s warm and friendly and he ’ s even got a notably humorous side , too . We even found out where he gets his artistic streak from — both his parents are visual artists . Premiere Issue 2016 | 135
