Rebels

Class Analysis:

Underrated:

Top Impact

Player:

While this class is nowhere near as talented as Ole Miss’s 2013 class, it has some potential to do great things for the Rebels program.

Considering the offensive depth at Ole Miss, they didn’t take many guys on this side, but they did snag some great offensive linemen who will help build depth and for some, after a redshirt year, possibly start.

Defensively, the Rebels didn’t click as much as fans or coaches would have liked, but they should benefit from the additions in this class. They assembled a good defensive back haul with Tee Shepard and C.J. Hampton. They also built depth along the defensive line by adding players like Breeland Speaks and Marquis Haynes.

With Donte Moncrief leaving for the NFL, Ole Miss now has an opening at wide receiver that could allow Markell Pack to come in and become an impact player early. Despite weighing almost 40 pounds less than Moncrief, Pack does have good height, and blazing speed. He also is one of those receivers that knows how to use his body to make a play on the football. If he can improve his route running skills, he should become a reliable target for Wallace and Brunetti.

On the defense, my pick is SDE Garrald McDowell. With star player Robert Nkemdiche moving to DT, McDowell can earn some playing time. McDowell has good strength and quickness off the ball, which will help him disrupt the opponent’s backfield. The only criticism is that his frame can’t grow much more, but he is college ready now and will be ready to work when he arrives on campus in the fall.

Defensive Tackle Chris Williams has the potential to shine during his career at Ole Miss. Though he will probably require a red shirt year to get more acquainted with the defensive scheme as well as improving some aspects of how he plays. He is a strong player, who can excel at both stooping the run and rushing the passer. Again, he will require more time to develop, but he definitely has the potential to good things in Oxford, MS.
