Fuel cells and other new technologies are being introduced to maritime
vessels. Consequently, new standards for ship classification will be
needed. Even in the absence of up-to-date regulations, ship classification
societies have to decide whether new fuel systems and other previously
unseen technologies are safe enough to be utilised.
