ndependence of the Seas sailed off towards western horizons from Turku, Fin-
land, in April. As the majestic vessel started her maiden journey towards homeport
of Southampton, England, one woman’s
journey – or mission, really – came to an

Hellgren had worked around the clock in
order to keep the giant project rolling according to schedule. The result? Independence of the Seas was finished six weeks before the deadline.
Looking back at the gargantuan undertaking, Hellgren says that the “do-or-
