Aker Yards is known for building the finest luxury cruise ships in the world. On 1 March 2007, the company
took on a new challenge of unprecedented proportions as the construction of the first Genesis-class vessel
kicked off. At present, Aker Yards, Turku has in its orderbook two Genesis class and one Freedom class
luxury cruise vessels – or rather, “floating resorts”. Commissioned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, the
Genesis vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2009 and 2010, respectively. The price tag for the two cruise
ships is two billion euro.
