The role of classification is accentuated by the boom of marine industry
arine industry is an important part of the operations of
Lloyd’s Register. Some 6000 ships have been classed by
Lloyd’s Register which amounts to 18 percent of the world’s ship
tonnage. Passenger ships that have been classed by Lloyd’s Register include, among others, Queen Mary II. Special vessels, such
as crude oil tankers and LNG vessels, carrying liquefied natural
gas can also be mentioned in this context.
According to Matti Niskala, Marine Country Business Manager for Finland of Lloyd’s Register EMEA, Finland, the classification
institution he represents enhances the quality and safety of the
customers’ business transactions, in addition to enhancing the
efficiency standards.
