The 165 m long and 26.8 m wide vessel has 2.2 kilometres of vehicle deck space and 120 cabins. In January 2006 a contract was signed with Brittany Ferries of a new type of ropax for delivery in 2008, to be named “Armorique” The 167 m long and 26,8 m wide ship has space for 1,500 passengers and 1.1 km of vehicle deck space. Speed 23 knots In November 2005 Aker Yards and Viking Line Abp signed a contract for a fast passenger ferry “Viking XPRS”. The vessel intended for the Helsinki-Tallinn route will be 185 m long and 27,7 m wide, taking 2,500 passengers. The vessel will reach a speed of 25 knots driven by 40 MW engines. In December 2005 a contract for two fast passenger dayferries was signed with Color Line. The “Color Superspeed” (27 knots) vessels to be delivered during 20072008 are intended for the DenmarkNorway services. The ca. 211 m long and 26 m wide vessels will each have 2,000 lane metres of vehicle space and take 1,900 passengers. 12 seatec 2007 In October 2006 the departmental council of Morbihan (Brittany, France) ordered a small ropax vessel to be built at Aker Yards, Lorient. It is a sister ship of the Bangor, delivered in June 2006. The 450 passenger ship will be 46 meters long and 12 m wide, with a vehicle capacity of 32 cars. (or 3 lorries and 15 cars). The ship due for delivery in the second quarter of 2008 is designed to serve the island of Groix, in Brittany. The easy-to-manoeuvre ferry will have a speed of 12.5 knots. In November 2006 Aker Yards entered into a contract with Stena Rederi AB to deliver two innovative ferries which will be the largest ferries in the world. The basic design of these “Superferries” will take place in Finland and the building in Germany,a genuine proof of Aker Yards’ ability to operate across borders and share competences. Deliveries are scheduled for the first and third quarter of 2010. The contract includes options for two further vessels of the same type.
