Participants in the course will learn the knowledge and skills needed to guide their K-6 students toward being fully prepared Year 7 science, using correct concepts, scientific techniques and language. They will see demonstration lessons using every day, cheap and easily obtainable resources. This course will begin by teaching the relationship between the K-6 learning process skills of investigating and what Year 7 and 8 students do in high school. teachers requires consideration of the knowledge, skills and understandings Year 7 students should have when entering high school. This course teaches the primary teacher how the content and language of their syllabus relates to the Year 7 Science classroom and beyond, and what learning is needed by students preparing for high school science, allowing greater continuity from primary school to high school in science. The presenter of the course will then focus on each of the content strands of the NSW K-6 Science and Technology syllabus for the Australian curriculum, using her scientific expertise and teaching experience as a high school science teacher. The course will cover all three stages and will try to give a holistic perspective.
