Sceneazine.com Silversyde By Jenny Johnston S ilversyde was birthed from turmoil, chaos, and despair. Our lyrics tell a story of release from addiction to many harmful behaviors including drugs, alcohol, and an incessant desire to find acceptance in people and behaviors that sought to destroy us. Our music, tells a story of a great emptiness inside that we have a longing to fill. No longer shall we be slaves to depression and addiction. Our lyrics are real, our motives are pure and our hearts are set on reconciliation with the source of all purposeful, abundant Life. Let’s introduce the band. Who are the members and what instruments do they play? Our band is called Silversyde and we are based out of north west Ohio. We originated in upstate NY (where I’m from) until we started nationally touring in 2013 and relocated for a more central touring route. The band consists of 4 members- Myself, Laura, I’m the lead singer and founder of the band. Nathan on the bass, Nate on the drums and our newest member Zach on guitar. So how long have you guys been playing in this band? And is this everyone’s first band they’ve played with? The band has been going since 2011 but it’s not everyone’s first rodeo. We all come from different musical backgrounds, bands and tastes in genre, but all of our differences fade away when writing for the band and performing. We are like a family and are the same on and off stage and that brings consistency and stability to our environments. Who in the band came up with your name? What, if any, reason did you guys choose it? Does it have a meaning behind it or does it stand for something? I came up with the name “Silversyde” and wanted it to have meaning. We hope that eventually it’ll become self explanatory for our fans based off our positive message, but we really wanted it to portray finding hope in the worst circumstances- the “silver lining” to the storm you’re in. So when did you guys start as a band. Has anyone played in other bands together? Share with us a brief history. I’ve always been our front man, but members have come and gone through the years. It’s always an evolution of members who can/can’t tour, get married or have too much responsibility at home to be gone for so long. All of our previous members have played an instrumental part in bringing Silversyde to where it is today. Our current line up is one we believe will be around for the long haul though. The chemistry we all have is amazing and we are all like-minded and goal driven. Is there one person who writes all the songs or do you guys write as a band? Our first album in 2011 ‘Circus Circus’ I wrote and composed, then handed off to our producers who put their magic on it. Our newest EP ‘Casting Shadows’, which is available March 1st, 2015, I wrote the lyrics to but the music was composed by Nathan our bass player and Billy our former guitarist (save for the song “Memories of You” which I composed). Billy recently resigned as our guitarist for love and has plans to marry my sister Ali who (ironically enough) was our original guitarist. We wish them the best! Where do you guys usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is you guy’s usual songwriting process? All of our songs are written from personal experience. It’s typically a dark place our lyrics generate from that includes pain, depression, thoughts of suicide, loss or brokenness. The difference we feel our music offers is that along with our deep subject matter comes the “silver lining” of hope through those dark times. Our most recent project touches on the pain of losing a loved one. I just lost my mother who was also our bands original manager in 2013 to a rare cancer that took her life painfully within 8 months. The pain from that loss haunts me and my family everyday and at one point even made me question what I was doing in the band. It wasn’t until recently did I realize that I’m not alone in my pain and it gives us another platform to relate to our fans. If someone wanted to hear your music where could they listen to it?
