Sceneazine.com Psychopathic Daze By Jenny Johnston From a quiet suburb just outside Chicago, Psychopathic Daze is making some big noise. With a musical style that only they can create, Psychopathic Daze is ready to take the world by storm. Metalheads and non-metalheads alike are captivated by the raging guitars, pounding drums, and driving bass lines. And over all of that comes a scream unlike any ever heard from in the Chicago area. The band lives by the fact that they are in an entertainment business, and never disappoint. Psychopathic Daze’s live show combines extremely tight playing with some of the most energetic guys in metal. The riffs will keep you up at night, while the melodies will keep you coming back for more. Having played many shows to fans all over the country, Psychopathic Daze is lining up to take the world by storm. Brace yourselves. Get ready. Psychopathic Daze has arrived. Let’s start off by introducing the band. Who are members and what instruments do they play? Tony Castile-Lead Vox Frank Adamo-Lead Guitar/Backing Vox Ryan Dickinson-Lead Guitar Kyle Meiser-Bass Mike McCloskey-Drums 2) So how long have you guys been playing in this band? And is this everyone’s first band they’ve played with? This band has been around for a little over 6 years, although this current lineup has been in place for about 10 months. This is none of our first bands, I don’t think. You may have seen us in Audacity, Beneath Betrayal, Denial Machine, Lygate, Ashes, Tempest Revenge, Thy Art is Murder, and a few others. We’ve been around the block, haha. This is the first time we have been in a band together, though. Who in the band came up with your name? What, if any, reason did you guys choose it? Does it have a meaning behind it or does it stand for something? The name was actually thought up by our first vocalist, Ken. We were writing our first ever song at the time, and we were still so new, we didn’t have a band name picked out. He stayed up late one night with a fifth of Jack working on lyrics, and the name “Psychopathic Daze” came to mind somehow. He brought it to the band, and it just stuck. We’ve taken it on as our own though. I feel like if you watch our live show, the energy we try to present at every show makes the name speak for itself. So when did you guys start as a band. Has anyone played in other bands together? Share with us a brief history. The band started in early 2010. It was put together originally as a band solely to play at our old guitar player’s haunted house that he owns and operates. We played a few shows in preparation for playing at the haunt, and the crowd response was surprising, even from day one. At that point, we kinda figured we had something that couldn’t be contained at a haunted house (which is good-the only time we ever actually play the haunt, it was shut down by the 5-0 halfway Page 24 through the set, haha). The band has just kept pushing, aiming for bigger and better things right from the start. Is there one person who writes all the songs or do you guys write as a band? Typically, either Ryan or Frank will write the skeleton of a song. It might be a riff or two, or 90% of what they feel the song should be, with basic drum tracks laid out and everything. Once they feel they have a good jumping off point, they’ll bring it into practice and we all collaborate on it. That’s when the fun really happens. We try to keep the feel of the song as they had it, but obviously 5 heads are better than one, so we might delete certain riffs, or rearrange the order of the song, or change the drum pattern to help it make more sense musically. Then we get to work on the transitions between parts, verse to pre-chorus to chorus, or whatever it might be. That usually takes the longest, making sure just that those one or two measures is tight and properly flows from one part to the next. Even after the song is “done”, we never really stop tweaking it. We’re always looking to push ourselves and make every song better than the last. Where do you guys usually gather songwriting inspiration? It really comes from all over. It could be a life experience, or a riff that gets stuck in your head that you cant get out till you write the rest of the song that goes with it. For example, we wrote the song “The Unfallen” as a sort of rebellious anthem against record labels and music industry types who are constantly against you. We got tired of people telling us we couldn’t live our dream, and we realized that there’s probably a lot of people who have been told at on point or another that they can’t do something. This is our “fuck you” to those people. You’re telling me I can’t do something? Sit back and watch me. If someone wanted to hear your music where could they listen to it? Do you have a sound cloud or ReverbNation account?
