Sceneazine.com Music Reviews by Julia Pope Atlas Road Crew - “Voices.” each part. However, that’s not the case: Ernie Cates has both. That, to me, is great talent in and of itself. Where it’s at its finest is in “I won’t let this fear take control me” in “Still I Rise.” Which one speaks more to you? If I were to take a personal vote as to which song has more “sabotage,” it would be “Through the Ashes.” If you’re like me, you must hear, and maybe say sometimes yourself, “Where’s all the good music?” “Don’t they ever play anything good on the radio anymore?” “I miss the good ol’ rock & roll days.” Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you good news: Rock is not dead. Straight out of Charleston, South Carolina, Atlas Road Crew brings us “Voices.” Speaking of voices, it won’t take you very long to hear Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson in Atlas’ lead vocalist Taylor Nicholson. So much so, you’d almost think that the Black Crowes, themselves, released a new song and kept their style of music. Additionally, note the roll-off-the-tongue choice of lyrics, with a decided don’t-care attitude in it. That the song is about a broken heart only reinforces it. Nevertheless, there are some similarities in “Ricochet,” and “Rise and Fall,” and “So Divine,” just to name a few songs from Simplicity, Tesla’s new CD. And heaven’s not too far away; neither is good ol’ rock & roll. More, please! It takes me twenty seconds to know when an instrumental intro makes or breaks a song. For “Through the Ashes,” it’s the former. If this was meant to be a scream-o/guitar duet-with some “silent” in between-they nailed it. What’s funny is that Deaf Angel had a song called “Rise Up;” Silent Sabotage has “Still I Rise.” Even funnier, “Through the Ashes” has lyrics of “rise up”. This should tell us headbangers something: let’s rise up, and continue to do so, in celebration of some metal core that reveals talent. Silent Sabotage - “Rebuild The Foundation” shout, “You are ugly, and I hate you.” A two-thumbs up for nailing that in “Make You Cry.” In my humble opinion, they’re gutsier and more straightforward than Ugly Kid Joe.
