With 2014 coming to a close, there are plenty of bands playing some of their last shows of the year and making big plans for 2015. So, in this edition of Scene Stealers, we take a look at some of the bands that either have already, or will be rounding out the year at a bar or club near you. First up are the epic tunes of Everthrone from McConnells, S.C. With a sound so epic you’d think it belonged on “Game of Throne,” these guys are bringing symphonic metal to the Carolinas in a BIG way. The resounding vocals of front man Russell Plyler and the instrumental fury of guitarist Nevin McKeown and keyboardist Chris Carland powered by the percussive drive of drummer Jeremy McKeown and bassist Daniel Carner, combine to make Everthrone’s signature sweeping sonic grandeur. Their incredible storytelling and breathtaking delivery make them a genuinely mesmerizing experience. For fans of Nightwish, Tyr, Apocalyptica and Kamelot, definitely take the time to check out Everthrone and experience the same commanding force and uplifting epic-ness right in your own backyard! Meliora of Upstate, S.C. come baring a sound signature some have compared to a mix of Breaking Benjamin meets early Hinder. Their soulful debut single “Full Circle” piqued the interest of many with its bluesy undertones and lamenting lyrics of karmic retribution. Taking their name from the Latin word meaning “for the better,” Meliora is looking to build on the already bustling rock and metal scene here in the Carolinas and bring a new and better cash of songs to the ears of their local aficionados and fans. Decadence out of Columbia, S.C. is a collection of musicians bringing hard rock mixed with soul, passion and dedication. Their name says it all with the lush and decadent immersion of the senses in their music, as demonstrated in songs like “Phase.” Resounding layers of instruments and vocals make each song a rich experience for the listener and is at times all-consuming. Vocalist Josh Rowe’s soft Southern twang adds just the right amount of Southern realness to each track and gives way to his connection to his roots.
