Their latest CD Dress Full of Soul consist of 13 songs, 12 of which are original written by Mac Spica. As Mac explains, once they started making their own music, there was no turning back; it is the difference between taking care of your friends’ child compared to caring for your own. After flame-haired vocalist Tootsie Von Comare joined the band 3 years ago, Mac began writing the songs around Tootsie’s unique personality and her dynamic voice. Tootsie is a born musician; her mother sang to her in the womb, and passed down to her a voice that reaches out to her audience and stirs their collective soul. I had the pleasure of sitting in on their band rehearsal before their performance at 2014 Riverbend Music Festival in Chattanooga, TN. I was very impressed with the entire band of experienced professionals, and it was apparent that this wasn’t your ordinary band rehearsal. More like a spirited revival, as they just cooked, pushing forward with passion, intensity, and sound. Pack of Wolves has a style of music that can only be compared to complex wine, because of all the different elements of their music. It’s blood and guts blues with a mixture of traditional soul and rock. Pack of Wolves musically acknowledges blues heritage, but their sonic palette is made of many colors: (James) Brown, (Tampa) Red, (Al) Green, and even (Jack) White and (Frank) Black. They have performed at all of Chattanooga’s best venues and music festivals, just to name a few: Riverbend Music Festival, Nightfall, The Zombie Walk, River Rocks, JJs Bohemia, Rhythm n Brews, Honest Pint, and this year won their night for Road To Nightfall, which you can watch on EPB on demand. They have also had some live radio performances here in Chattanooga on WUTC, as well as WDVX Blue Plate Special and i105 WFIV in Knoxville. Last week, Pack of Wolves finished recording their second record at B-17 Studios under the guidance of veteran Detroit producer Dave Feeny (scheduled for January release on King Sound Records). To become a star, you must first spark in your own home town, and that is just what they have done. Pack of Wolves is Chattanooga’s next up and coming band.
