uly 2014 has been a very busy month for NC13
Music News. What better way to end an amazing
month then with an album review for a not so local,
local band?
Mongrels five song album is around twenty minutes long and opens with a track entitled Snakes. Vocalist Jessica Sierra’s voice demands to be listened to as
she sings along with the kick ass riffs of guitarist Adam
Savage.
On the second song of the album entitled Oxygen
Mask you get a to hear the awesome drumming talent
of Mike “Hoagie” Hogan who isn’t afraid to show off
his bad skills as he pounds away at his kick drum and
snares.
The fourth track on Evolution allows us to listen to
the skilled fingers of bassist Michael Ariza as he shows
off in a fifteen second bass solo thats makes you want
to repeatedly listen to it. If you would like to hear this
kick ass band for yourself you can do so at any of the

O
n July 14th we were asked by Pavement Entertainment to take a quick listen to one of their
up and coming bands promo disk. Now I can’t stop listening to it.
The Album that we received was only the EP but
what an EP it was. The first song on the album is entitled
Anymore. It starts off with an awesome guitar entrance
followed by a twenty seven second jam session where
each member of the band is playing their heart out. At
thirty seven seconds in we get to hear vocalist Justin’s
voice which truly sounds like Ben Burnley.
The second song on the album musically wise is just
as bad ass as the first although the vocals seem to take a
step down to the softer side.
“I am tired of Playing games with myself. Will I be
ok? I’m holding on although I’m lost. Time to make it
at any cost. Will I be ok” are the first few lyrics to Best
of me. They remind us of a guy who is basically tired of
taking shit from people, and he is going to change his
life by changing the people in it.
Hold On the third track on the EP picks the speed
backup as guitarist Juston not only shows of more
amazing vocals but an amazing solo that just makes you
want to give him the most epic high five.
Growing Colder and By Myself are the last two
songs on this kick ass EP where both Drummer Alex
and bassist Jonathan show off their skills and leave us
wanting more from these kick ass locals.
Adage will will be playing at Ziggys in Winston Salem on August 9th along with Blacklist, Psychotropic
Remedy, and Charlottes very own Shadow of Myself.
Adage will also be filming the music video for Hold
On. If you would like to check these guys out for yourself you can do so by visiting their websites.

T
he Veer Union is set to Release a deluxe edition of
their 2012 album Divide the Blackened Sky on June
10, 2014. The re-release is set to be fully remastered and
include 3 new songs; “Safe and Sound”, “Antagonist”
and “No Hope Till Now.”
The Veer Union was formed way back in 2004 by
Crispin Earl, the band’s vocalist. You may have never
heard of them, but if you’re a sports fan, I’ll be willing to
bet you have heard their song “Seasons”, from the 2009
album “Against the Grain.” It was the theme song for
the WWE’s 2009 Backlash Pay-Per-View as well as being featured in MLB, NFL, NHL, NASCAR and ESPN
broadcasts.
Having never heard the original album myself, I
decided to have a listen to this years re-release when
something about it initially grabbed me. It immediately took me back to the feel of early to mid-2000’s hard
rock. A time when I was finding myself musically and
consequently one of my personal favorite era’s of modern music.
The A cappella intro to “Borderline”, “I’m tired of
being told to bite my tongue, I wanna scream at the top
of my lungs”, Instantly sets this song as a theme for anyone who is tired of being held down and suppressed by
another. “Face my fear and then I will make you disappear” wrapping up the lyrics for the song.
The next song in line, “The Bitter End”, fits pe ə
