Sceneazine.com Invoking the Abstract by Claude Spurlock IV E ver since the dawn of time, Man has been finding ways to express emotion through Sound manipulation. From the most Primitive drums to the most complex note structures of well composed masterpieces by Bach, Beethoven and Wagner there is such a broad spectrum of music. So Extreme metal is a common term tossed around these days most and its full of Sub genre’s Like Technical Death metal, Death core And Djent. There are many great bands that fit one of these categories, But Invoking the Abstract Is a band in a Category of their own. Invoking the Abstract’s style is built around a word “Shred” which they adopted as their motto. The first time I saw this band I knew there was something different. Gone was the stale Chugga Chugga formula this area had grown a custom to. Instead they leave you with unmatched diverse timed riffs that are both technical and memorable. Tyler Ivey and Evan Garner bring a unconventional approach to song writing leaving behind the standard metal four four formula and take it past what most guitar players could even fathom playing. With the addition of their “Lead” bass player Joseph Carrabotta and drummer Ryan meadows Invoking The Abstract could easily be one of the best instrumental bands on the east Coast for example Tosin Abasi’s Animals as leaders. With every show I see I am impressed. They are without a doubt one of the best metal acts Columbia has ever seen. Not only do they play amazing they are they are about music which includes them going to support other local bands in Columbia and surrounding areas. Mike Busbee has started a Promotion and clothing company called ShredCvlt which is built on sponsoring up and coming local music acts. With Clothing his clothing line he is letting people who normally wouldn’t be endorsed to be a part of things. It’s something very positive for South Carolinas Local extreme metal scene. They have a huge hand in bringing National and regional acts to the area booking really good bands and giving local metal fans good shows to attend. They work hard and are starting to spread like wildfire throughout the country with the release of their professionally shot music video for the song “Dark Hand” Shot at Columbia’s oldest live music Club the New Brookland Tavern on State Street in West Columbia South Carolina. The video shows accurate depiction of the party attitude that Columbia is known for throughout the southeast. There are many great things on the Horizon for this band.
