in “coal country” because they really dig live music
there. Tubby’s in Duncannon has an amazing stage, but

and fans, but were also able to fit in with them on a personal and musical level.
“The first time I heard a song, I clicked with ‘em,”
mentioned Sowell about his entrance into the NE world
of blues metal.
“Trase and Kiefer took our lead, came in and really
delivered,” Johnson recounted of Sowell and Tindall’s
start with the group. “They fit us… Can’t say that about
everybody.”
And the tight relation of the brotherhood shows to
be strongest when NE plays. Johnson’s Rollins-style,
banshee-like screams bring adrenaline rushing through
the body moments before still-water smooth vocals
continue the story. At the same time, bass notes played
by Tindall pound in the veins as blood would with a
sledge-hammer blow to the foot.
Sowell’s tempos on the drums are frighteningly reminiscent of the hard-knock sounds of police beating the
front door to serve a warrant. And then, there’s the lead
guitar played by Walker. His focus, seemingly communing with his instrument, is so intense it could slice
diamonds as if they were butter. The shrieking guitar
lines that emerge are likely the sounds of those same
gems.
Necessary Evil has been around the CSRA for quite

blues metal and heavy American hard rock with them
to tear down the house.

Let’s get everyone’s opinion on this. If someone ask
you for advice about being in a band or about starting
one, what would you say? Would you encourage or discourage them?
Ron: The answer is yes; so long as one were to understand that it is a unique experience that requires
more work than you could ever imagine, but is more
personally rewarding after all the sacrifice that it is indescribable.
Matt: Well, the selfish answer is to say no, because
less bands means more gigs for us. But the real answer is
