SC Campaign Annual Report 2012-2013 December 2013 | Page 5
I
t is truly an honor to serve the SC Campaign as
Chairman of the Board, especially as we are
approaching our 20th Anniversary year. Since the
SC Campaign was established, our state has made
tremendous progress in reducing teen birth rates.
In fact, the teen birth rate has declined by nearly 50%
over the last 20 years. This is definitely an
Melisa Holmes
accomplishment worth celebrating, but we must not
become complacent. Despite progress, South Carolina still ranks 11th highest
in the nation for teen births. As we look to the next 20 years, I am confident
the SC Campaign will continue to lead the way toward even greater
improvement.
As a parent and physician focused on women’s health, I am proud to be
part of an organization dedicated to improving the health and economic
well-being of individuals, communities, and the state of South Carolina by
preventing teen pregnancy. Over the past two decades, the SC Campaign
has been recognized as a trusted, statewide resource and has emerged as a
national leader in the field of teen pregnancy prevention. This recognition
is the result of ongoing partnerships with and support from experts, direct
service providers, donors, and advocates throughout our state and nation.
As we celebrate our accomplishments and look to the future, I would like to
thank all of you who have supported us over the years through financial gifts,
expertise, advocacy, and enthusiastic support. I encourage you to remain a
part of the SC Campaign family in the years to come, especially in 2014 as
we celebrate 20 years. I would love to see each of you at the 20th Anniversary
Celebration on May 7 in Columbia where we will honor our past, celebrate
our accomplishments, and welcome the exciting things to come.
