Q A : What significant benefits have you derived from being a SEIFSA-federated Association? : Relative labour stability coupled with a number of support systems, particularly to smaller companies which cannot afford the luxury of Human Resources, Training, and Safety Health Environment and Quality Managers. It should be borne in mind that the industry would not have all the social benefits enjoyed by all companies in our industry such as Pension/Provident funds, currently the second biggest in the country. A comprehensive Main Agreement covering all aspects of employment – particularly Section 37 which prohibits strike on any issue which has been concluded in the negotiated agreement is one certain thing we would not have achieved without SEIFSA. Q A : What are some of the challenges facing your Association? Has SEIFSA played a role in confronting these challenges? : Currently, we are facing the challenge of entering the arena of Sectoral Bargaining and SEIFSA has assisted us with the initial union approaches and co-ordinated meetings. Q A : If we could change one thing about SEIFSA or its services, what would that be? : The past wage negotiations saw a high level of professionalism and co-operation amongst the various employer parties. I would like to see the negotiating teams being carefully selected and trained prior to all such negotiations. The results/outcomes of the latest wage negotiations speak volumes about the team which led this process.
