Sifiso Mngomezulu
Sifiso joined the SEIFSA Bursary family in 2018
with outstanding results in Mathematics and
Physical Science. He is currently in his third
year towards completing his BSc: Industrial
Engineering at the Wits University.
Sifiso’s cousin changed his life through a simple
career guide handbook. The handbook helped
Sifiso determine where he belonged in the world;
by reading it cover to cover multiple times and
taking his own traits into consideration, he
realised that Industrial Engineering is where
he belonged. In time, Sifiso wishes to attain his
Masters in Business Administration to augment
his career path by adding a strategic component
and enabling him a chance to gain a management
role in the workplace to lead engineering
projects.
Sifiso shows great capability based on his high
school results. He never allowed the pressures
of university to keep him down for long, rising up
to the challenge and proving to be deserving of
the SEIFSA bursary.
He shows great potential, believing that
engineering is life and the future of society. His
ambition may produce ground-breaking ideas for
growth in the industry.
Sheldon Willie Zoya Mthanti
Sheldon applied for the SEIFSA bursary with
excellent results in Mathematics and Physical
Science. He is pursuing his first-year tertiary
studies in BSc: Geomatics at the University of
Cape Town. Zoya applied for the SEIFSA Bursary with
promising results in Mathematics and Physical
Science. She is pursuing her studies in BEng:
Metallurgical Engineering at the University
of Pretoria as a first-year student in the 2018
academic year.
Sheldon opted for distinctive choice of study
in the civil engineering field - Geomatics as
it combined three of his favourite subjects,
namely mathematics, physics and geography.
He is passionate about the environment and
South Africa’s numerous heritage sites and is
determined to sustain it for generations to
experience in the future.
A little about Geomatics: “Geomatics involves an
integrated approach to the measurement, analysis,
management and display of geographic and other
spatial data. It is the collection, integration and
management of geographic data. Geospatial
science is an academic discipline incorporating
fields such as surveying, geographic information
systems, hydrography and cartography. Spatial
science is typically concerned with the
measurement, management, analysis and display
of spatial information describing the Earth, its
physical features and the built environment.”
Sheldon shows great capability based on his
high school results. With help from SEIFSA, he is
able to make his dream a reality in pursuing his
studies in Geomatics Engineering, minimizing a
gap in spatial development.
When asked why Metallurgical Engineering,
Zoya’s response was inspiring: “I was initially
attracted to metallurgical engineering because it
is not a very well-known engineering path. The
more I learned about it, the more interested I
became. Material science and metallurgy are
such diverse fields and there is a wide range of
jobs a metallurgist can do, from extraction to
processing, etc. My hope is that I can learn from
people who have more experience than I, and
also get to make a contribution to the industry
as well as society.”
Zoya is going for gold; she shows great capability
based on her high school results, with five
distinctions in matric – richly deserving of
a SEIFSA bursary. She aims to complete her
Masters in Metallurgical Engineering, with
the intention of giving back to society, thus
banishing the preconceived notion that women
are not intellectuals, designers or inventors
and minimising the gap often perceived in the
engineering industry.
