the gap in the interests of the metals and engineering industries is an
unenviable task.
In particular, a special personal word of thanks to my collegues across the
table who represent arguably the most important asset in our industry
– that is: our employees. Individuals who remain fully committed to the
centralised collective bargaining cause, notwithstanding the constant
criticisms that come their way.
From my perspective, it has always been a pleasure and privilege to
work with leaders in the labour movement and, more often than not,
many a lesson was learned in my dealings with leaders of business and
labour.
Finally, by way of extra-special thanks, I would also like to express my
personal gratitude to each and every member of SEIFSA’s staff, all of
whom have made my service with the organisation to date so very
special. In particular, I would like to thank my fellow Executives for their
support, guidance and assistance to me over the years. Also to Colin
Boyes, Bernard Ashlin, Kylie Griffin and Keith Vosloo for the important
work they do in the interests of our members in the Cape, KwaZulu-
Natal and Eastern Cape, whilst also promoting SEIFSA’s interests in
these important geographic regions of our industry.
Lastly, I have been privileged to have worked with two brilliant Executive
Directors, Brain Angus and David Carson. Brian and David have left an
indelible mark on SEIFSA’s history and I have little doubt that under
SEIFSA’s current Chief Executive Officer, Kaizer Nyatsumba, SEIFSA
remains in excellent hands and that the entire SEIFSA team will ensure
that this organisation continues to serve the interests of our members
and the industry as it has done so for the past 75 years.
Finally, to our member companies, thank you for your ongoing support.
I wish you all continued success in all your business endeavours in the
challenging years ahead.

CEA (LBD)
YOUR RELIABLE
PARTNER IN
STAFFING SOLUTIONS
The Labour Broking Division (LBD) of the CEA (SA)
was established in 1994 and it represents the interests
of employers and employees originally engaged in the
steel, structural and mechanical industry and in project
management, but throughout the years, it has expanded
to multi-discipline sectors such as logistics, retail, and the
motor industry. It also provides temporary employment service
providers with a stakeholder forum to regulate this specialised
industry to serve the needs of their clients and to protect the rights
of their candidates in a legally compliant environment. The CEA (LBD)
has been recognized by the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining
Council (MEIBC) and the trade unions and is working with the MEIBC,
SEIFSA, BUSA, CAPES, NEDLAC, the Black Business Council, statutory
Government bodies, and other Bargaining Councils to ensure that
members are compliant.
Members meet regularly to discuss matters of importance to the industry
and have over time compiled a Code of Ethics, a pro forma Service Level
Agreement and pro forma Fixed Term Contract which is available for use
by members. It has also developed a set list of criteria for the accredita-
tion of Labour Brokering services in the industry to ensure compliance
and self- regulation. Working with SEIFSA, the CEA (LBD) viewpoints are
also strongly articulated in negotiations with the trade unions and on
various other industry platforms.
Members undertake to be legally compliant at all times, and offer quality
service, and meet all reasonable standards and conditions of their clients
and employees. A new member is given an opportunity to comply with all
the accreditation criteria within their first 12 months of membership. An
accredited member has successfully undergone the accreditation process
and has been issued with an accreditation certificate which is valid for one
year. The CEA (LBD) undertakes to promote and advertise all accredited
members through various platforms and forums at its disposal.
