Q & A with SEIFSA
President Michael Pimstein
at the time of his
appointment in 2016
Q
: How do you see SEIFSA changing in the next
two years, and what role do you see yourself
playing in creating that change?
A
: Given the economic and socio-political outlook in the near
future, it is critically important for SEIFSA to reaffirm its
position as the pre-eminent representative of the best interest of
its members. This will obviously follow from the role it plays in
the future of collective bargaining, the advocacy body and lobbying
necessary in the areas of general business needs, good governance,
regulatory interventions, socio-economic and human capital policy
and industrial policy and opportunity. It is also important for SEIFSA
to secure and then enhance its position as clearly the organisation
of choice when it comes to the delivery of products and services
in the areas of Industrial Relations and Legal Services; Economics
and Commercial; Human Capital and Skills Development; as well as
Safety, Health, Environment and Quality.
SEIFSA’s strategy must not only supplement the income derived
from membership dues and well-established products and services
in the market place (e.g. Price & Index Pages, SEIFSA Training
Centre, Main Agreement Handbook, etc.), but it must also allow for
the on-going support of affiliated members. In the medium to long
term, this ensures that the Federation remains geared to meet the
expectations of all its member Associations.
I recognise that SEIFSA has been challenged by both constructive
and, unfortunately, ill-conceived and damaging destructive criticism
in recent years.
SEIFSA will, however, always be a function of what its Council
determines. In this regard, I expect that Council and Board meetings
will always encourage robust and constructive input and debate,
and criticism where necessary, and that trust, respect and support
are the platform from which all participants engage on all matters
affecting SEIFSA and its stakeholders.
The Board is fully behind SEIFSA’s Executive Team and supports its
strategy and commitment to ensure that all these goals are achieved.
