RANDS+CENTS ATM safety When choosing a bank, also consider how convenient it is to find its ATMs. Use these tips to be safe at all times: • Your PIN is private; keep it that way. Don’t make the mistake of writing it down and keeping it next to your card • Only insert your card into the ATM when prompted to do so • Don’t accept help from anyone at the ATM • Don’t leave the ATM if your card is still in the machine, even if it appears to be stuck. Call your bank’s toll-free stop card line immediately to stop your card • Avoid ATMs at busy places where there are many people and distractions. Online banking Technology has made it convenient to bank online, but you do need to take some precautions: 1. Keep your log-in details private 2. Don’t use online banking on a public network, for example, free Wi-Fi at a coffee shop or mall. It can be hacked easily 3. Sign up for alerts so you always know if someone is trying to log into your account. Banks are competing to get your business. Check out what other products other banks have to offer so you can always choose what’s best for you. Ask your bank to send you SMS notifications for any activity that happens on your account. This will help you keep track of your money at all times.
