Chairman’s Overview 2017 / Voorsitter se Oorsig 2017 1 Dear Homeowners, operational areas of our business. 2017 was a busy year for San Lameer, and I'd like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Board, to thank you all for your support and positive contributions. I would also like to take some time to reflect on the past year, and share with you some of the initiatives planned for the times ahead. Managing Director The responsibility for the day-to-day running of the business and the implementation of strategy and other board decisions rests with our Managing Director and his team. This provides an accountability framework against which their performance is measured and assessed by the Board. AGM and information meetings The input of our homeowners is imperative, in that it enables the Board of Directors to continue to represent the interests of our owners. For this reason, the annual AGM was once again preceded by the traditional information meeting during which homeowners had the opportunity to raise any matter to be discussed in detail. We hold an AGM not only because it is a legal requirement but also to share and communicate key decisions and matters of interest. Roles and responsibilities Board of Directors The Board of Directors' role is defined in the memorandum of incorporation, but generally is one of oversight, governance and the setting of strategy. In order to deal with these objectives in an effective manner the Board operates via a structure of board committees, which ensures a proper focus on the key Overall objectives All actions and objectives are consistently measured against the following vision: Ÿ As a Board, supported by management, our overall objectives in managing our estate remain the creation of a premium brand with facilities and a culture that will make us both an investment as well as a holiday destination of choice. Ÿ ·To achieve the above we set high expectations of management to ensure that our primary objective of meeting our homeowners' expectations is met on a continuous basis - we want this paradise to be a very special place for you and your families – a place where you get rest for your soul and build memories … Key focus areas for 2017 With the above in mind, our key focus areas during 2017 specifically included: Continuing with our established and approved maintenance and upgrade programme While we are acutely aware of the financial implications of this programme for homeowners, the overwhelming positive feedback from both homeowners and visitors to our estate more than supports its merits, and we thank you for your support. The Board and management are committed to completing this key programme. Managing water supply issues Recognising the lack of a stable and reliable water supply to our estate (and the negative impact on our homeowners, visitors, as well as the San Lameer brand in the marketplace) the Board established a special task group in November to assist management in establishing a backup water supply strategy for the estate. The intention is for our estate to be self-sufficient during peak times for two to three days during periods of interrupted water supply. Upgrades Homeowners will have observed the continuous projects that take place to enhance the facilities and aesthetics of our estate. Recently completed includes the repaving of certain areas, upgrading the swimming pool area and the creation of a dam with a paved lookout deck for nature and bird lovers. Chairman: Andries Brink 2018 will certainly see these projects continue, along with a planned upgrade to the street lighting and signage to further enhance the curb appeal value of our estate. All of these initiatives are aimed at ensuring that we move our estate forward, keep pace with an ever-changing environment, look after homeowner investments, and create a unique and pleasant culture on our estate.
