San Lameer Newsflash/Nuusflits Oct/Nov 2017 | Page 2

News from Management / Nuus vanaf Bestuur 1 has not confirmed this directly to us. We understand that homeowners are frustrated and concerned regarding the situation, especially in view of the upcoming December season. Questions are also asked as to what the Board and Management are doing to avoid such future incidents. We can assure you that, Management and the Board share your concerns, and Management is in constant contact with the municipal manager, Mr DD Naidoo, as well as the general manager of water services of UGU, Ms Lungile Cele. They promised to provide us with an update as soon as possible. 6 NOVEMBER 2017 WATER UPDATE Dear Homeowners Please note that it seems that the internal staff issues at UGU have been resolved for now and the UGU workers have returned to work, as there is water on the Estate. We are still urgently looking into other water supply options, for example boreholes, over and above the water tank project. Geagte Huiseienaars Let asseblief op dat dit lyk asof die interne personeelkwessies by UGU opgelos is vir nou en die UGU-werkers teruggekeer het werk toe, aangesien daar water op die Landgoed is. Ons kyk steeds dringend na ander watervoorsieningsopsies, byvoorbeeld boorgate, bo en behalwe die watertenkprojek Dear Homeowners We regret to inform you that we have been experiencing on and off water problems on the Estate lately and yesterday morning the reservoir was again empty and is still empty. We can only once again sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and reiterate that we are doing our best to get answers from UGU as the water supply is not something that we control. There is no water in the reservoir or in the main supply line that leads from the water purification works at Port Edward up to our reservoir and beyond to Southbroom. Therefor the problem is not isolated to San Lameer, but currently an entire South Coast problem, due to UGU workers being on strike and deliberately vandalizing the water supply pipes / valves and intimidating casuals so that they cannot take their place to ensure a constant water supply. These are general facts, but UGU To update you on the project to have 20 000lt tanks installed on the Estate so that San Lameer will at least have one or two days of emergency water supply in peak season and three or 4 days' supply in mid or low season : Ÿ The tanks have already been purchased, delivered and are ready to be installed; Ÿ We can unfortunately not connect the tanks to the UGU main supply line as yet, as the main supply pipe belongs to UGU and is controlled by them from the reservoir to the bulk meters at Lot 142. Therefore, the tanks must be placed as close as possible to the reservoir and main supply line and connected with UGU's permission; Ÿ An engineer has already identified the old UGU site office, near the reservoir, as the best location for the tanks (on land belonging to UGU); Ÿ This means that a servitude has to be registered for the use of the site and for the connection of pipes and although tedious, this process has been ongoing for some time so that we can use the site legally and our interests and property (tanks) can be protected through an agreement and registered servitude. However, it is doubtful whether the servitude will be registered before December 2017 but we try to get permission from UGU to already place and link the tanks as soon as the UGU Council grants permission and the municipal manager signs the Council meeting's minutes; Ÿ The possibility also exists that we can increase the amount of tanks; Ÿ UGU has already indicated that it supports the San Lameer request and will also try to include the use of the old site and servitude as an annex to the existing Bulk Use Agreement, which will ensure a time-saving. Water Tank Installations Taking into consideration the recent water interruptions that we experienced on the Estate, that were unfortunately totally out of our control, we would like to encourage homeowners of the freehold units to install water tanks on their property. If a Sectional Title Unit has got access to an Exclusive Use drying yard, the installation of a water tank to a maximum of 800 litres will be considered. Please take note of the procedure to follow in order to install a
