Citywide Compliance
I
n the past year, OCEIA increased the amount
of support it provides City departments to
improve their language access services.
With the rollout of the Language Access Academy,
OCEIA’s Language Access Services Division has
increased the number of City employees trained
on language access from 80 in FY 2017-2018 to 396
in FY 2018-2019.
Departments may have increased their investment
in language services as a result of more education
on language access requirements, as well as
growing awareness about the tools and assistance
that are available to them. The increased
investment includes providing interpretation
at more meetings and hearings, more funding
allocated to translations, and a greater number
and variety of documents being translated across
various departments.
