RECOMMENDATIONS CONNECTING COMMUNITY TO SERVICES   The purpose of the Language Access Ordinance is to provide equal access to information and services to all residents, including LEP individuals, in order to foster a safe, healthy, and engaged San Francisco. The City has made significant improvements since 2001. The recognition that language access and immigrant integration are integral aspects of creating an informed and active community should be the City’s focus in the years to come. OCEIA continues to assist departments improve the quality of their services by providing technical assistance, language coordination, and training public contact staff. IMPROVE TRACKING, EVALUATION AND DATA COLLECTION MECHANISMS AND TOOLS Commission an independent audit of language access policies and services to improve on self-reported data. CREATE A LANGUAGE ACCESS ADVISORY COMMITTEE OCEIA, in conjunction with its Language Access Grantees and advisors, can help inform Citywide policy, practices, and community language access services. CREATE A COMMUNITY LANGUAGE SERVICES BANK Provide adequate funding for a pilot program to train bilingual community members to provide on-demand interpretation and translation services to City departments and nonprofit agencies.  UPDATE GUIDELINES FOR ANNUAL COMPLIANCE REPORTS Standardize departmental reporting in order to make relevant comparisons. In the next year, OCEIA will provide departments with updated standards.
