ShakeOut BC Earthquakes happen all across Canada annually, each varying in magnitude. According to a 2013 study commissioned by the Insurance Board of Canada, there is a 30 per cent chance that in the next 50 years there will be an earthquake striking in southwestern British Columbia that will be strong enough to cause “significant damage”. On October 17 at 10:17 a.m., millions of people worldwide will practice how to ‘Drop, Cover, and Hold On’ during Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills. British Columbians can join by registering for the 2019 Great British Columbia ShakeOut. Participating is a great way for your family or organization to be prepared to survive and recover quickly from big earthquakes – wherever you live, work, or travel.
