AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS
Mad Science: Nasa Academy of
Future Space Explorers!
Developed in cooperation with NASA, the Academy of
Future Space Explorers takes children on a voyage of
discovery through the solar system. Explore the phenomenal events that take place in the night sky and
the atmospheres of other planets. Create craters and
observe model meteors. Investigate the sun and distant
stars and the galaxies they form. Build your very own
model rocket. Guide a laser through a maze and use
radar to find hidden mountains. Set out on a mission to
investigate life in space!

After School Chess Club
The study of chess has been proven to increase
mathematics and reading test results in elementary
school-aged children. In a Texas study, regular (nonhonors) elementary students who participated in a
school chess club showed twice the improvement of
non-chess players in Reading and Mathematics between third and fifth grades on the Texas Assessment of
Academic Skills. Chess dramatically improves a child’s
ability to think rationally, increases cognitive skills,
improves children’s communication skills and aptitude
in recognizing patterns: therefore, proper study and
practice of chess results in higher grades, especially in
the areas of English and Mathematics. There will be a
school-wide chess tournament towards the end of the
session in which students will earn awards, key chains,
medals, and/or trophies!

Academic Chess
“We make chess fun!” This curriculum is designed to fit the needs of all skill levels. Continuing
and new students are welcome. Every chess student will receive an Academic Chess workbook
according to their own skill level. Chess increases
IQ and teaches children to think deeply, gain
confidence, solve problems, develop patience,
compete well, visualize results, strategize and
plan. The class includes exciting stories and fun
lessons to bring the game to life and make it fun
for children.
