Youth AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS Art Lego Engineering Location: Cordillera Elementary ASP4044 Fri Feb 26 2:20-3:20 pm ASP4045 Fri Apr 22 2:20-3:20 pm In our “Bricks 4 Kidz Engineering” class using LEGO® bricks, students will experience hands-on engineering fundamentals as they build different motorized models that relate to a given theme. Each week, students will build a different invention or gadget and will learn the mechanics and engineering principles behind each model (examples include a walking spider, rotating tornado, a dragster or a catapult). Through our structured builds, students will develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Our student “inventors” will learn why, where and how these inventions work. Once the project is completed, children use the rest of their time to expand their gadgets and collaborate with one another. Students are also encouraged to create their own inventions using our huge tub of LEGO® bricks!* Make learning FUN! * Location: Del Lago Elementary ASP4046 Tue Feb 23 2:15-3:15 pm ASP4047 Tue Apr 19 2:15-3:15 pm Fee: $115/6 weeks Ages: 1st-6th grades Young Rembrandts' Drawing Class Inspire your student’s love of art through the power of drawing. Everything! Students will build a fun, knowledgeable foundation on how to control light, time, and shadow while applying mathematics (in fractions and time values) to their individual sense of artistic creativity to capture images—which they will be proud of. This class is offered for students arriving into, or currently in, the 3rd through 6th grade or 9 to 13 years old. Students will receive two of their favorite images in print; which will be used as display during the last week of class for club students to vote on. Parents will be sent a photography club group photo as well as the images that their child captured during class sessions. An adventurer who loves space exploration? Then you will love Bricks 4 Kids’ Space Adventures where you will learn about reallife space exploration and build new LEGO® models related to the NASA space program. Models include a satellite, a lunar module, a centrifuge (which astronauts use to prepare for the physical sensations of launch), a treadmill (which astronauts use to stay fit in space), and a space robot. Students also will learn some of the science behind launching things into orbit, hear about the most-distant man-made object in the universe, and discuss what it is like to be an astronaut in space!
