Later this season, the Chicago Office will be offering an enrichment lecture series covering a wide range of issues. Ticket information will be available online on Partners’ website and Facebook page, as well as on the Chicago Office blog at www.sacredplaceschicago.blogspot.com. Also starting this spring, Partners will provide educational opportunities to students in fifth through eighth grades. Working in collaboration with faculty from the school of St. Mary of the Woods (a Catholic parish from the northwest side of Chicago), a sixth-grade class will tour Quinn Chapel, Second Presbyterian Church and Holy Family Church, then use digital technology in conjunction with traditional lesson plans to learn about the three key aspects of each sacred place: its heritage, its faith, and its community. Expanded Programming The Chicago Scroll Project is a new program designed to document the rich heritage of Chicago’s historic congregations. Clergy and lay leaders will be interviewed and encouraged to share their experiences as members of congregations that worship in historic religious buildings. An architectural component will be incorporated by interviewing local architects experienced in working with historic religious structures. Historic preservation, journalism and film students from Creighton University, Columbia College, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Chicago will assist with the project, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate artistic creativity, build their portfolios, and document the rich heritage of Chicago’s historic congregations. Elizabeth is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Historic Preservation program and has worked on numerous projects with the City of Chicago and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. Also helping with various projects and services are seven new interns and volunteers: Katie Chiu, John Michael Jurica, Lisa Napoles, Kyle O’Reilly, Jessica Ross, Jon Vogel, and Christine Whims.
