FEELING AT HOME IN PRIMARY SCHOOL
Nothing brings more joy than knowing our youngest students feel
safe and loved, and importantly, at home in our school. Knowing
that early learning cannot be rushed and that children learn in
different ways, our homeroom teachers, teaching assistants, enrich-
ment coordinator, reading support specialists and special area
teachers are attuned to each child’s needs and abilities.
In Primary School, we teach core literacy skills, carefully balancing
developmental growth with academic achievement. We provide
an introduction to both French and Spanish. Students at this age
learn best by doing, which is why our curriculum is organized
around varied hands-on activities that build on children’s interests.
Have we mentioned how much we love books and promote reading?
Students and their teachers spend time immersed in literature.
Our inquiry-based approach to learning encourages exploration,
collaboration and creativity.
TAKING FLIGHT IN LOWER SCHOOL
Lower School students have a special zest for learning. We foster
this natural zeal by introducing students to a wider base of knowl-
edge that enables them to connect with the larger world.
Enter a classroom and you may find students digging into a novel,
reading a story from the Junior Great Books or acting out a scene
from a play. They might be working through a social studies
research project or exploring world cultures. Both math and science
provide opportunities for more challenging problem solving. The
Lower School years are crucial to children’s developing view of them-
selves as learners. We offer many paths to further develop critical
thinking skills while encouraging kindness and self-confidence.
