AN EDUCATION FOR THE HEAD
AND THE HEART
St. Madeleine Sophie, our foundress, believed that a Sacred Heart
education—which seeks to expand both mind and heart—would
enable students to better their world. We share her belief. That’s
why issues of social justice are studied at every grade level as part
of the curriculum, and opportunities for service are plentiful and
engage the entire Sacred Heart community.
WISDOM THROUGH SERVICE
There’s nothing quite so meaningful to young people as seeing
their actions make the world a better place. Guided by our Goals
and Criteria, we educate students to a greater social awareness
and incorporate projects in which students can explore their own
call to advocacy. Justice Day is held annually and provides students
of all ages an opportunity to focus their attention, through the
use of music, dance, theater and the visual arts, on a particular issue
or topic of social justice.
To further facilitate social awareness and our commitment to our
neighborhood, Sacred Heart partners with several service organiza-
tions in Edgewater and nearby communities. Middle School students
are assigned to one of our partner centers, and twice a month they
engage in service activities at the facility. Students learn about
the mission and goals of the organization and find new meaning in
