Visit Stockholm
Top 5 reasons to visit Stockholm
Stockholm, “the capital of Scandinavia” is the perfect example of a modern, vibrant city that still has a
vast ancient history. With its combination of trend setting restaurants, lively nightclubs, calm museums,
parks and idyllic archipelagio ‑ its hard to find an excuse to not pay the city a visit this year.
1. The Archipelagio
With its 30.000 islands there is no getting
away from the fact that the archipelago plays a huge part of Stockholm’s
charm. During the summer it’s easy to
explore the larger islands surrounding
Stockholm by taking one of the many
ferryboats. Many of the islands have
the possibility of overnight stay with
anything from posh hotels and restaurants to cheaper alternatives such
as camping, hostels or hiring of small,
private cottages.
2. Old Town
Stockholm’s old town dates back to
the 13th century and consists of very
narrow alleyways, streets of cobbled
stone and ancient architecture. Here
you can both visit great modern bars
such as “Corner club” and also old
classics restaurants like “Gyldene
freden”. The restaurant has served traditional Swedish cuisine since year 1772
and is in itself an old town institution.
3. Drottningholm Palace
Take a day to visit the royal residence,
Drottningholm Palace and enjoy the
castle and the majestic gardens surrounding it. The castle itself is the most
well-preserved castle from the 1600’s
in Sweden. The castle is influenced by
French architecture and was built by
command of Queen Hedvig Eleonora.
Today the palace is the permanent
home residence of the King and
Queen of Sweden. Parts of the castle
and grounds are open to the public all
year round.
