Visit Stockholm Top 5 reasons to visit Stockholm Stockholm, “the capital of Scandinavia” is the perfect example of a modern, vibrant city that still has a vast ancient history. With its combination of trend setting restaurants, lively nightclubs, calm museums, parks and idyllic archipelagio ‑ its hard to find an excuse to not pay the city a visit this year. 1. The Archipelagio With its 30.000 islands there is no getting away from the fact that the archipelago plays a huge part of Stockholm’s charm. During the summer it’s easy to explore the larger islands surrounding Stockholm by taking one of the many ferryboats. Many of the islands have the possibility of overnight stay with anything from posh hotels and restaurants to cheaper alternatives such as camping, hostels or hiring of small, private cottages. 2. Old Town Stockholm’s old town dates back to the 13th century and consists of very narrow alleyways, streets of cobbled stone and ancient architecture. Here you can both visit great modern bars such as “Corner club” and also old classics restaurants like “Gyldene freden”. The restaurant has served traditional Swedish cuisine since year 1772 and is in itself an old town institution. 3. Drottningholm Palace Take a day to visit the royal residence, Drottningholm Palace and enjoy the castle and the majestic gardens surrounding it. The castle itself is the most well-preserved castle from the 1600’s in Sweden. The castle is influenced by French architecture and was built by command of Queen Hedvig Eleonora. Today the palace is the permanent home residence of the King and Queen of Sweden. Parts of the castle and grounds are open to the public all year round. page 12
