the integration of one of Danpal’s
daylighting roofing system.
Firstly, BMW needed to have all the
existing corrugated polycarbonate sheeting
removed from the roof areas. As can be
expected, the polycarbonate sheeting had
suffered under harsh South African weather
conditions – as these standardised sheets
are exposed to our high levels of damaging
UV, they completely lose their integrity.
Compromised polycarbonate sheeting
can no longer provide either the structural
or thermal benefits it would have originally
been chosen for. These commonplace
sheets will turn a sickly yellow and become
brittle, and as this process slowly takes
place, they tend to fail in their ability to
provide a weather barrier. The quandary for
BMW in this case was: what to replace the
lightweight polycarbonate sheeting with?
