Director at MDA Law, Ian Massey, tackled the issue of dispute resolution and avoidance for contractors. A product demonstration by Soudal sales representative, Ronnie Groenewald, displayed capability of Soudal’s fix all sealant. Providing lightweight roofing solutions to visitors was CEO of Bitumen Roofing Africa, Nicolas Herberstein. The final training programme was done by Lola Verlaque, sales and marketing manager at Polymers Waterproofing Suppliers. DAY 2 Tackling key issues Knowledge Lounge and Contractors Corner where training programmes held on the last day of the exhibition. Knowledge Lounge The KZN Stakeholder Engagement Forum welcomed participation from eThekwini Municipality and KwaZulu-Natal’s Department of Public Works conversing how Kwazulu-Natal’s construction industry is open for business. A roundtable discussion deliberated on enabling public-private sector collaboration to achieve KwaZulu-Natal’s development milestones for infrastructure and service delivery. Panellists included Aubrey Shabane, CEO at the KZN Gr owth Fund, Ross Stembridge, building services manager at Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal, Aubrey Tshalata, national president from the National African Federation for the Building Industry as well as senior representatives from the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works. Following presentations from the panellists, the floor was open for questions from the audience. After the forum, a VIP tour of the exhibition floor, located outside – featured several interactive product demonstrations was given to attendees. Proceedings were wrapped up with a session from the Concrete Associations information clinic hosted by The Concrete Institute (TCI), Southern Africa Ready-mix Association (SARMA), Concrete Manufacturers Association (CMA) and the Concrete Society of Southern Africa. Various speakers were on call throughout the two-day conference. Contractors Corner The audience took the opportunity to engage with presenters and exhibitors. Lebo Sephati, chief business development officer at Steeldale, presented about enterprise development and transformation in the construction sector. Overall flow Not only did this convergence of thousands of qualified industry professionals open new opportunities for communication and collaboration amid the public and private sector, but it also served to identify key areas requiring renewed focus in 2018 and beyond.
