Modernism at a glance
The Modern Movement was essentially, breaking the old ways of thinking.
Modernist architects have influenced the homes
and universities throughout the North Shore,
and during the last quarter, we were privileged
enough to represent the sale of a home designed
by Sydney Ancher’s company- Ancher, Mortlock,
Murray & Woolley – 24 Montah Avenue, Killara.
The essence of Ancher’s work in this home
demonstrated a range of classic features, including;
exposed oiled timbering, an asymmetrical and flat
roof following the slope of the land, timber postand-beam construction and painted brick walling
to name a few.
These elements that Ancher commonly featured
in his work, injected a feeling of warmth into his
houses, exploring textural and tactile qualities
through the use of natural materials, allowing a
notion of indoor/outdoor living with large windows
filling the home with garden vistas and sunshine.
