Time to get INTO THE gardens!
Autumn is the perfect time to rejuvenate gardens & balconies for the new season, & prepare for Spring…
Many plants have grown over summer, & need to be shaped & thinned.
It’s also rose season & they look gorgeous this time of year.
Here are a few things to get you started!
• Winter flowers such as Pansies, Primula, Cinerarias, & Paper Daisies all provide winter colour & need
to be planted now.
• Sweet Peas! One of our favourites & planted this time of year. An old ladder could be the perfect
support for the quickly growing vines, which also adds a nice feature to your garden.
• Choose a sunny spot for the Sweet Peas, cultivate soil well & add plenty of compost or cow manure.
Water the soil the night before planting & don’t water again until you see the shoots appear.
• Rejuvenate tired lawns with an autumn feeding, to ready them for the onset of cool winter weather.
• Don’t rush to prune spent seed heads. They provide a wealth of food for birds that visit the garden!
• Cymbidium orchids should be placed in full sunshine to encourage good flower spikes.
